Growing up I was shamed for crying.
Maybe you heard this too…
“Big girls don’t cry.”
“I’ll give you something to cry about.”

I laughed at inappropriate times.

When that wall of pain finally broke loose
I cried a river of tears while healing.

Until one day it stopped.
In the middle of a healing session.
I started laughing.
Laughing hard…
because all my trauma/drama
seemed like the biggest cosmic joke.

Then I started to make myself wrong.

My healer said, “laughter is just as powerful as tears. So laugh.”
The shame shifted.
My comedian returned.

Now I laugh at appropriate times.

We need laughter as well as tears.
What if the comedian in the room,
holds the greatest power of transformation?

Think of the Fool card in the Tarot deck.

“The principle of courage; state of no fear; ecstasy and peak experience…The Fool is an excellent symbol to use as an affirmation to enhance courage, risk-taking and creative expression that is needed to give birth to new parts of one’s life.”- Angeles Arrien

I give thanks to the comedians and the satirists,
the modern day fools that are pointing out hard truths,
making me laugh and think outside the box.
We need more Fools.

Be. More. Fool.

With love,
